NOTE: to focus on local farm and community development work, Ben is taking time away from most consults as fall winter 2024/2025 arrive. if you have an unusual project you’d like ben’s input on please email describing it.

How It Works

The Remote Site Consultation is a 60-minute online consultation for landowners/land managers with sites or projects they’re developing or refining. This consultation aids in site/project planning and is tailored to help clients review key decisions that set them on a path to accomplishing their goals.

The remote consultation includes a review of your project goals and the site via aerial imagery and contour maps. During our video call, we’ll discuss the most pressing questions you have about your project and identify primary opportunities and challenges to reaching your project goals. We may discuss challenges and opportunities such as:

  • Ideal locations and arrangement of access, house, orchard, ponds, garden, parking, etc

  • Water harvesting, resiliency, spring-locating, drought-proofing, and other waterscaping approaches

  • Where to expand food production areas and how

  • Access challenges, and how to improve them

  • Microclimate enhancement for expanded outdoor use

  • Home and built infrastructure issues and how to improve them

All work with clients is always carried out under a professional duty of confidentiality.

“Ben is an excellent teacher. Our homestead is a 56 acre plot in the mountains of TN, and we left our call with him with some truly amazing visions of what we could do on our land. Not only did Ben help us design our permaculture homestead, but he also helped us see other homestead spots on the property for our friends and family members who may wish to move here. He taught us principles of designing our homestead as well which we can employ as we inevitably come up against more questions down the road. He gave us many ideas which we hadn’t even remotely considered - build an in ground fresh water pool in our back yard for us to enjoy and which can simultaneously irrigate a berry patch? Totally genius.” Stephen & Theresa, TN, USA

Testimonials

The one-hour consultation was incredibly valuable. It helped me look at the contour lines to pick a house building site. When I went back to look at the property after the consultation, I could see it with new eyes...

From Jesse & Family, in Tennesse:

"It was very helpful to have a live discussion with Ben and work through the analysis of the terrain features when identifying the most optimal building site for our homestead. Ben truly listened to our plans and concerns and worked through the process in a very informative and beneficial way. I highly recommend this consult before you break any ground on your land to make sure your plans are optimized for your goals. We received more information and guidance from Ben than we thought before the consult, and he even reviewed how we can start gathering supplies to compost to be a resource available in the years to come. Ben took our input and our goals sheet and put together an amazing plan to start the design and building processes for our homestead. Worth every penny, we feel like we have a partner and a wealth of knowledge in our tool belt for years to come."
